A Little More About You
A brief history of your character: I grew up in Southern France with my younger sister Etoile. I had been the strange bird of the family not wishing to follow my parents or sister’s path of glamorized careers. My mother was a ballet dancer and my father an actor, and surely you can guess my sister went on to be a model. I had more interest in knowledge and hands on work--I moved out early to attend film school in Paris. Sadly my sister had grown just as far apart from my parents as myself--she now resides in Milan.

Etoile and I had left and not even a year later our Mother grew extremely ill. She had hidden breast cancer from our family for nearly a year. My father was devastated and used all his strength to take care of her. Unfortunately he disregarded his own health and died from insufficiencies in his body.

To keep myself from breaking down I enveloped myself in my future career prepared to make any sacrifice to succeed and to make my dead parents proud. I have kept tabs of my life in a form of an art journal since the day my mother died it has lead to my first gig as an Art Director for an Indie Film in Roquebrun, France where I am now their permanent Art Director for special effects commercials and advertising. I loathe advertising but I promised to make a sacrifice when needed and if this gets me into making award winning motion pictures then I did it.

I am now two years into my career gaining speed up the ladder each month my name has now spread through the globe with fantastic clients such as Hugo Boss, BMW and Nintendo. After meeting Hiro I must say I couldn’t resist the temptation of take a much needed vacation to refocus my future career.

A brief description of their personality: Ever since I applied to film school I have been addicted to coffee--it gets me through everyday and my constant long nights staying up writing, sketching and editing. It has kept me alert enough to make decisions that are thrown my way constantly, I have proven to be very decisive for this reason. I am an overall people person I always put my best face forward when it comes with clients and my team, that attitude is what makes the projects all come together. I like to address my outgoing persona as my public face--I have always been a very internal person and I tend to keep most thoughts to myself by lying through my teeth.

Lying has become another fascination of mine. Ever since I started making films about other people’s lives it has intrigued me to try and see if I can act their role. I will often lie about what I like to eat which has gotten me into a few date disasters, I’ve even lied about what education I have behind me. The most exciting is lying to complete strangers, you can become a totally different person without ever truly showing them who you are.

I tend to examine real life and use it within my writing by analyzing how people speak, walk and react. I’m hoping on this vacation that I’ll be able to become a new persona to inspire a script for my next film.

What would a background check bring up: Filming on private property without permission, and breaking into abandoned buildings for filming.

What is your character's greatest strength? Telling a believable lie.
Their biggest flaw? Not being able to get close to anyone.
Their grandest dreams? To create an award winning film.
Their worst nightmares? To fail in my career and be humiliated.
List three-five accomplishments/accolades of your character: One: Graduated from Film School Two: Created a film awarded best direction in Paris’ Film Festival Three: Signing on a contract to work with a world renowned film company in Roquebrun France. Four: Learned to speak English fluently.
List three-five secrets/indiscretions of your character:
One: I hate my job. Two: I have skills in breaking locks (ex: to enter buildings.) Three: I am broke due to helping my sister Etoile who is now in financial emergency.

Short Writing Samples (200-500 words each):
Your arrival at the Estate:

I was on a plane once again, how I loathed the low class seats with no leg room never-mind space to stretch or sleep.

“Why, thank-you.” A large fake smile shone upon my face as the attendant passed me a glass of low grade wine. My nose crinkled as I sniffed the cheap wine. “Delicious,” I muttered.

Surely a couple more glasses of wine would make this trip a bit more pleasant as my hand picked neighbor in the seat next to me was a fat business man who snored loudly and slowly moved closer and closer to my shoulder. I sipped my wine silently staring out in the blank sky with a small sigh.

-----

I watched the scenery pass by quickly as the cab sped along a quiet street--I grimaced. Wine Country. It was inevitable that I would follow suite to the guests expectations of being the most knowledgeable on the finest of wines. I clearly had no idea--but maybe I could play a character as a wealthy wine dealer in France. I retrieved my iPhone from my jean pocket and instantly searched for information on fine wines and the current wine market in Califronia. This device was my ultimate tool to the perfect lie, thousands of pages of information at my fingertips.

The cab jerked to a halt and I quickly looked up to take in the large estate. It was nothing out of the ordinary that she hadn’t seen before, and certainly nothing like the hundred of years old buildings in Paris. But it would have to do, and it was about time I had a change of scenery something a bit more modern.

I stepped out of the taxi to see no one outside, I often found it strange how empty these estates felt. There is so much space that you would imagine hundreds of people flooding its entirety but instead you have a couple of people who are often divorced and rarely have children--how boring.

I clutched the handle of my back and decided to approach the ominous large white doors. I took a breath as I reached for the handle--this was sure to be a vacation I would remember, even if I have to make it happen.

Your statement to the Chief Inspector:

“What was I doing at 12:13 this morning you ask?” I said with my eyebrow raised as I sipped my coffee diligently. I knew exactly what I was doing the inspector looked impatient so I smiled as sweetly as I could.
“Well you see,” I said setting down my coffee, “I’m an renowned Art Director.” I stated the truth. “I’ve been working out a new idea of mine.” The inspector began to open his mouth and I was quick to stop him.

“The way we in the film business work out ideas is through drawing and writing, inspector.” I picked up my coffee once again bringing it to my lips satisfying my addiction. “I’ve been at it nearly all night I swear.” I brought my opposite hand up to my heart.

“I was sitting in the library,” I continued proudly, a pencil still tucked behind my ear, “With my legs propped up on the stool working away for the longest time--with this coffee here actually.” I brought it to my lips once again. “I didn’t hear a thing until someone rushed in the room to tell me 911 had been called.” I placed a look of great thought upon my face.

“I threw everything aside immediately--I had no idea what had happened. I didn’t even hear one sound.” I looked the inspector in the eyes, “Unfortunately I never saw one of the guests either.” I patted the inspector on the shoulder, “But surely my writing and doodling are evidence of my hard work during this time?” I laughed lightly, “Surely you wouldn’t imagine I could afford to miss a deadline!” I downed the rest of my coffee I certainly needed it.

By submitting this application I affirm that I have read and agree to abide by all rules of the game.
